After rejecting a prince put into power by the Mongols the Golden Horde was sent to enforce it’s decision. Dmitry Donskoy stood in defiance of the Golden Horde army leading up to the Battle of Kulikovo in which the Russian forces remained triumphant. The Mongols were still in control of the providence for another one hundred years.
